“IT was dusk when the hikers grabbed backpacks and water bottles and headed into the woods of Cheyenne Canyon, outside Colorado Springs. With darkness closing in, the hikers, most in their 40’s and wearing sturdy boots, forged ahead, some not even bothering to turn on flashlights. As the sun’s last light faded, a bright full moon was growing ever more clearly defined against the darkening sky.”
